Questo sito web è la versione online di un dizionario biografico pubblicato in sette volumi tra il 1998 e il 2009.
The idea for this website came only after the biographic dictionary had been published in printed form. Therefore, the content was not available in structured form - only the proofs of the books were available in PDF.
We extracted the text and images from the PDF files. The resulting text was annotated by hand in XML: title, author, profession, and the text itself was marked as such. These XML files serve as the basis for the web publication.
The website is searchable by title, author and profession, and, of course, also contains a full-text search option.
The conversion scripts (for text extraction etc) were written in python; the website was implemented in Zope.
The graphical design was done by ourself.
